CONDUCTORS SEMINAR

Seminar The Tokyo Sinfonia Conductors Seminar is a practical programme for young professional conductors

• Its purpose is to help conductors improve the artistic results they obtain in performance
• The seminar includes 6 months of rehearsals, critiques, discussions, coaching and public performances
• Each active participant will be provided scores of all seminar repertoire without charge
• Seminar sessions will be conducted in Japanese and English
• The seminar will be held in Tokyo

Repertoire includes
• Mozart Piano Concerto No. 25, Piano Concerto No. 26, Piano Concerto No. 27
• Rimsky-Korsakov Sinfonietta on Russian Themes • Tchaikovsky Suite No. 4
• Schumann/Rÿker Symphony for Strings, Fantasy for Violin & Strings
• Kodaly Variations on a Hungarian Folksong • Brahms Clarinet Concerto
• Brahms Variations on a Theme by Haydn • Haydn Violin Concerto No. 1
• Saint-Saëns/Rÿker Symphony for Strings, Havanaise for Violin & Strings

The orchestra will have a vote in the selection of conducting interns who will be invited to conduct in public performance.

During the programme to date, conducting Intern Takashi Iida, conducted the Tokyo Sinfonia in Saint-Saëns’ tone-poem Le Rouet d’Omphale in June on the Symphonies for Strings champagne concert series in Oji Hall. Conducting Intern Takako Yamanouchi, 30, conducted the Tokyo Sinfonia in Takemitsu’s evocative Three Film Scenes in August on the FCCJ dinner-concert series at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Japan.

Application Conductors may apply for admission to the seminar by submitting a resume of their practical conducting experience together with an application fee of ¥5,000.
  • Up to 5 participants will be admitted to attend the seminar as conducting interns.
  • Conducting interns accepted for continuance in the seminar will be assessed a continuation fee of ¥5,000.
  • Applicants not selected for active participation may elect to attend the seminar as auditors.
